When I visited Koh Phangan for the first time I met a Mama dog and her six puppies.
I decided to name her Mamasan. One night, after all the bars closed and the only sound from the beach was
the relaxing sound of the small waves washing up on the beach I saw Mamasan dog was walking with all six puppies
following behind her like baby ducks follow their parent. They were so small it was very difficult for them
to follow after their quick moving mother. One puppy, I named Baby, was having the most difficult time keeping
up as she was the runt of the litter. I worried about this little puppy. The smallest ones always have
a hard time surviving in such a rough environment. I tried to help her when she got to far behind from the rest of her family.
As she sat next to me Mamasan made her way to the very end of the beach turning around at the rock cliffs. She quickly came back up the beach in my direction
and passed by me with the other five puppies. I thought Momasan totally forgot about Baby. She passed by me and went far down the beach.
I sat there with Baby kind of worried that Mama had given up on her because she was so small. Then Mama came running back
leaving the other five puppies and let out a little bark as she came close to me and Baby. Baby knew Mama was calling her
and she got up and ran after her mother to join her brothers and sisters down the beach.
I stayed on the beach a while longer enjoying the quiet waves and the moonlight shining on the dogs pawprints in the sand.
