How to get to Koh Phangan

There are 3 ways to get to Koh Phangan.

If you have the money or don't have the time it is best to take a flight from Bangkok to Samui and then catch the boat over to Koh Pha Ngan. It is very nice to be there in just a few hours. From Bangkok Domestic Airport it is a one hour direct flight to Samui with Bangkok Airways. Once you arrive on Samui (airport is pictured above) you need to take a taxi to Big Budda Pier. Here you catch a ferry to Koh Phangan (Had Rin pier). You can buy a taxi ticket to Big Budda pier from the hotel reservation counter near the baggage area and you buy the boat ticket at Big Buddha Pier for 100 Baht.

If you have a time, it is very nice to take a train. The fare is very reasonable. The route starts at Hua Lam Phong Train Station(Bangkok) and goes south to Surat Thani. Then you have to change to a bus which will take you to Surat Thani pier to get the boat to Koh Phangan. You can buy a joint ticket (includes bus and boat) at Hua Lam Phong train station or Travel agency around Khaosan Road.
*When you get to the Train staion, sometimes people talk to you and ask "where are you going?" DO NOT talk to them or you are setting yourself up to be ripped off. Kindly say "No Thanks" or "Mai Kap" in Thai and go to the ticket counter and buy a ticket.

BUS  
I DO NOT RECOMMEND.
So many people including me have had trouble. I bought a supposedly VIP Bus ticket, but the bus was so old it didn't even have a toilet. I felt ripped off. If you travel between Bangkok and Surat Thani beware because there has been a lot of stolen Back Pack or luggage from the cargo bay underneath. The thief is hidding in there and waits until late at night when the bus stops to take off with your bags. It is known that they also might serve sleeping pills mixed with drinks or food so they can take a money from your waist pouch.
