   | Any animal you want to take home
has to be at least 8 weeks old. If a dog or cat you want to take home does not
have vaccinations, YOU NEED TO GO SEE DR SOMSAK
(his office located Samui Island) TO GET VACCINE or You can also call the Animal Clinic on Koh Phangan and ask if they can give
the rabbies shot. Make sure you write down the date and keep the sticker from
the vaccine bottle so that Dr Somsak can make a health care card later. All
animals have to have rabbies shots over 30 days before your departure. |

  | If you decide to take your lovey dog or cat home. |

  | Call your Embassy for information on taking a pet
  home.
EMBASSIES TELEPHONE NUMBER Ask what you need to do to bring animals back to your country. You will probably be speaking to a Thai that works at your Embassy so it may
be difficult for them to understand what it is you are trying to do as not
many people take animals home with them. They also sometimes tell you the
wrong answer because they are not familiar with the process of transporting
animals back to your home country. (My Embassy gave me the wrong answer.)

If you take an animal to Germany, call the Dog Rescue Center Samui and ask for details.
They help Germans transfer animals to Germany all the time and have a lot of experience
  in this matter.

  | You can also call Dr Somsak at 077-230857 and tell him your destination. The
U.S.A has different laws for each state so tell him the first airport your
airplane will stop as that state's laws are the ones you will have to abide
by. He also knows some countries' requirements and if he doesn't, ask him if
he can find out for you. It is very expensive to call Bangkok
so please pay Dr Somsak for the cost of all his phone calls on your behalf.
The minimum requirements your pet will need:
  Rabbie and Maybe
DA2L/Pi/PARVOVIRUS (against some virus) vaccinations 30 days before and
within 1 year of your departure. An animal health card.
Government qualified Veterinarian health certification valid within 10 days
  of your arrival.
Airport Veterinarian health certificate. You get this at the Animal
  Quarantine Station at Bangkok Airport.

    | Dr. Somsak can provide the rabie vaccination, animal
health card and the health certification. | Make A Reservation For Your Pet
Bangkok Airways - It will cost aroound B800 for your pet, depending on the size, to
fly from Samui to Bangkok. The airline requires that the animal be on sleeping pills.
Airline that you and your pet take home - Sometimes small animals may
travel as carry-on in the cabin with you. Check with the airline you are
taking home. The kennel must fit comfortably under your seat so it only
applies to very small pets. I recommend it if your pet is small enough.
Call your airline and ask for details.
 |
    | WHAT YOU NEED

     | Kennel (cage) - It must be big enough for your
pet to stand, lay down and turn around freely. If it is not big enough
the airline will not let the animal board the plane. Water bottle
Sleeping Pill - It is very important for your animal to avoid stress. You
can get them from Somsok. There are no sleeping pills available at the
Airport or from the airport vet.
Blanket - For the inside of the cage.

      |  If you have to stay in Bangkok with your pet you
may not find a hotel that will allow pets. If you do,
      please CONTACT to TORDIS.

I had to stay in Bangkok for a couple of days. I did not want
to take any chances that my flight would leave without me getting all
the necessary documents for my dog and she would be stranded in Bangkok.
There are many things that can go wrong so plan to go several days
earlier in order for you to get everything done on time. Airport Animal Quarantine Station *
Animal Quarantine Station is closed on Saturday and Sunday *
If you need a place for your animal to stay in Bangkok:
Contact with Tordis She sends out dogs
to the other countries quite often and will watch your pet for you. She
does charge a fee so call her and make arrangements and ask about the
price. Also, if you want to bring the animal you are falling love with
back to your country but you do not have a time contact with Tordis. She
may be able to arrange transportation back to your country and you can
      meet your pet back home.
