One dark night close to Black Moon, Aaron and I went for a walk to a restaurant that we knew stayed open late. Back then, Koh Phangan did not have electricity so when all bars were closed, there was no light anywhere. This restaurant had only one small lamp that they used for light. A few bothersome moths were fluttering around this light so we sat in a chair outside the restaurant. It was very quiet and peaceful but suddenly a dog started screaming for no reason right under the table I was sitting at. It was so loud I was very surprised and thought this dog is very crazy... I gave her some of my sandwich because she looked hungry. I did not think I would have a long time relation with this noisy dog. The next afternoon when I was giving a bowl of water to Kuro on my bungalow's porch, the dog from last night passed by. The dog seems like it did not recognize me from last night. I said hello to her and she finally remembered me and came to my porch and started drinking water. After that, she did not leave my bungalow's porch. I started to feed her everyday like I did for Kuro. I couldn't have a dog hanging around my porch without a name so I named her "Bakka." She always stayed with me from that day on even if I went outside of her territory. I tried to keep her from following me because Bakka could get in trouble with dogs when she crossed into their territories. Soon though, I found out that she always could get out of trouble very easily, probably because she was so young. When the dogs from the other territories surrounded her she would just lay down and cry very loudly as if the dogs were actually attacking her even though not one even bit her yet. After the dogs saw this, they seemed confused and all dogs decided to just leave her alone and walk away. I thought it was very funny. Bakka always stayed with me no matter where I went around Had Rin and no matter how many dogs tried to attack her she never once got into a fight. She made my vacation very enjoyable. |
